My primary area of research is translational neuroscience. I am interested in the mechanisms of inherited brain diseases. We use a genetic "in vivo" rat model in our ongoing research. I am also very interested in expanding my research collaborations into interdisciplinary fields with experts in physics, mathematics, and genetics.
My team is a student-run research group that is focused on the following topics:

  • Absence-epilepsy in genetically predisposed rats.
  • Analysis of electrical brain activity in freely moving rats.
  • Studying the epileptic phenotype in WAG/Rij rat model of absence-epilepsy; selection of non-epileptic control substrain (NEW, non-epileptic WAG/Rij rats).
  • Studying  the associations between absence-epilepsy and neuro-behavioral comorbidities in genetic rat models.
  • Studying the thalamo-cortical mechanisms in health and disease.
  • Studying the process of sleep and sedation in rats.
  • Studying the rats' behavioral skills, social behavior and cognitive abilities (also the analysis of ultrasonic vocalizations).
  • Development of new methods and approaches to signals analysis, application of the artificial neuronal networks for automatization of routine EEG analysis.
  • Studying adrenergic mechanisms of absence epilepsy, sleep and sedation.
